Scratching the sofa?
Scratching is natural: it keeps claws healthy and lets cats stretch and mark their spot. The trick is to offer something they like more than your furniture, right where they already scratch.
What helps
- Put the scratcher right next to the spot they scratch now. A corner protector can go over the corner itself.
- Offer both kinds: an upright post and an angled or flat scratcher. Many cats prefer one.
- Pick one that’s tall and steady enough for a full stretch. Wobbly posts get ignored.
- A spritz of catnip spray helps draw them to something new.
